How to enable EDGE on Motorola A780
This will guide you through the steps necessary to enable EDGE function
in Motorola A780 phone.
Most of this guide is direct copy paste from xlr8's guide to
customizing the Motorola Vxxx at http://www.xlr8.us/hofo/
Startup
Download necessary tools:
Install and run P2Kman. Connect USB cable to A780. You
should see "Connected" and your phone model at the bottom of P2Kman
window.
Download
SEEM 0032_0001
Type "0032" into the
"From" box and "0032" into the "to" box. Then click "Download
seem" button.
A "Save As" dialog will come up. Browse to the directory where you want
to save your files. Where it says file name, LEAVE THAT AS
"xxxx_yyyy.seem" - this is important, because it won't save the seem if
you change the name from that.
Now you have 0032_0001.seem
file.

Edit SEEM
Backup 0032_0001.seem file to
another folder before editing. This is in case of unforeseen
circumstances.
Run XVI32 editor, open the 0032_0001.seem
file.
Click on the 89th cell on the left screen of XVI32 so that "Adr. hex:"
at the bottom of the screen shows the number 89.

When the correct cell is highlighted and you see "Adr. hex: 89" at the
bottom, select "Bit manipulation" under Tools menu.
"Bit manipulation" tool window appears. If your A780 doesn't have
EDGE enabled, you should see bit #2 unchecked. Check it!

Click "Set" button. You'll notice that the value in 89th cell
changed.

Important: Leave all the other bits alone - do not change them. Other
bits may be checked or unchecked, but don't worry about it.
Save the file and exit XVI32.
Upload
SEEM 0032_0001
Now
get back to P2Kman. We must upload modified 0032_0001.seem file back to the
phone.
Type "0032" into the "Seem" box and "0001" into the "rec"
box.

Then click the "Upload seem" button, browse to the folder where the
modified seem file is, and click ok.
If you're successful, you'll see "uploading seem N 0032record N 0001
ok" - the "ok" at the end means you've done it properly.
Check
if EDGE works
Restart your phone and try connecting to internet. If everything
went ok and your provider supports EDGE, you should see "E" letter
instead of "G" in status bar.
